Inclusion & SEND
As a school we are committed to giving every child an opportunity to achieve their full potential through our inclusive ethos. We aim to overcome barriers to learning, providing strategies and interventions where appropriate to allow the children to progress with their learning.
Every member of staff is responsible for inclusive teaching. The class teacher is first and foremost the key part in any child’s learning. Through working with other staff, they help all children to learn the best they can.
Mrs Gillie Russell is the Assistant Headteacher for SEND and works with children, parents and staff in individuals learner who may need individual or specific support.
Oaklands School SEND provision and opportunities
The 0-25 Special Educational Needs Reforms aim to join up help across education, health and care, from birth to 25.
Help is to be offered at the earliest possible point, with children and young people with SEND and their parents fully involved in decisions about their support and what they want to achieve. This will help lead to better outcomes and more efficient ways of working.
The 2014 SEN Code of Practice says that
“ A pupil has SEN where their learning difficulty or disability calls for special educational provision, that is provision different from or additional to that normally available to pupils of the same age.”

What do I do if I have any worries about my child’s needs?
If you have any concerns about your child, the first thing is to speak to their class teacher. You may need to speak to Gillie Russell is the Assistant Headteacher for SEND who will work with the class teacher to support your child.
