Being a designer
At Oaklands, we inspire children to become creative problem-solvers and innovative designers! Our pupils learn about real-life designers, engineers, and inventors, exploring how their ideas have shaped the world around us.
Children will follow exciting design briefs and practise key skills like measuring, cutting, and joining materials, allowing them to develop confidence in using a variety of tools. Over the course of the year, all children will learn a unit about textiles, structures and mechanical or electrical systems. They design, make, and evaluate their own products, thinking carefully about how to improve them—just like real designers do!
