Being a Writer

At Oaklands, we believe that writing is a powerful tool for self-expression, creativity, and learning. Our writing curriculum is designed to inspire every child to become confident, imaginative, and skilled writers. Through our engaging thread of learning, from storytelling to factual writing, we encourage students to explore different genres and develop their unique voices and style. We guide children through every stage of the writing process using a range of carefully selected texts and stimuli to support this. We focus on helping students understand the purpose behind their writing and the audience they are writing for.

By focusing on strong foundations in grammar, spelling, and punctuation, which are taught daily, alongside creative thinking, our pupils gain the skills they need to communicate effectively both inside and outside the classroom. Teachers provide individual support to help each child thrive and enjoy the journey of becoming a lifelong writer.
