Who are the Governors?

The Governing Body play a vital part in the running of the school. They are a group of volunteers who are responsible for holding the school’s leadership to account and make sure that the school is performing and improving.

Governors form part of the Strategic Leadership of the school. For more information on Governors and their role in school, please read the Code of Conduct.

 

Structure of the Governing Body

The Oaklands Governing Body has no committees and the Full Governing body look at all items for the school. They meet each term and agendas and minutes are available upon request.

Biography
As a parent of a child at Oaklands school, I became a Governor in September 2016 and this is my first Governor role. I work for a local authority in an audit and enforcement role which has been really useful. I am keen for all children to maximise their abilities and reach their full potential.

I work full-time for the Ministry of Justice; part of my role is training and development. I am very focused on developing people to reach their full potential.

I see my role as a Governor at Oakland’s as assisting the school with all that is needed to develop each child to their full potential, at each stage of their education.

I have over 6 years experience as a School Business Manager, and 13 years experience working in education across both the Primary and Secondary sector.

Outside work, I run a large charitable theatre group. I am passionate about helping young people and seeing them succeed.

Biography

This is my first role as a school governor, and I am very excited by this opportunity to help the students and Oakland’s develop. I come from a family of ex-governors, so I have always seen the impact that good governance not only has on a school, but on the students. I am keen to play a positive role in helping the young people at Oakland’s succeed and fulfil their full potential.

I have worked in education and associated services for 15 years, having served as a staff governor in a previous school. As an ex-Oaklands student myself, when my eldest child joined the school I was keen to join the governing body as a parent governor and did so in January 2020.

I believe that every child should be supported and encouraged in their learning and that health, wellbeing, and safety must be prioritised to ensure children achieve their potential. I am keen to serve and support the Oaklands community in this role.

Louisa JONES

Head Teacher

Biography
I joined the school in April 2015 as the Deputy Head Teacher and have become incredibly proud of the school and its community. Prior to joining Oaklands, I worked in a variety of schools in many places including Yorkshire, Kent, Medway, and internationally in America. Over my career, I have worked in several roles including Senior Leader, SENCo and Class Teacher.

Biography

I have been a teacher in Kent and Medway for the last 13 years, the last 6 being at Oaklands. I have worked across all Key Stages and held leadership responsibilities that include KS1, Early Reading lead, EYFS lead and different subject leadership roles. I have also supported trainee teachers for the last 4 years.

This year I was delighted to be appointed as Assistant Headteacher in charge of Teaching and Learning at Oaklands. I was pleased to join the Governing body in 2023 and look forward to developing not only my own understanding of how a school operates but also continuing to help our fantastic school go from strength to strength.

You can use the contact form opposite to contact the Clerk to the Governors. They will respond as soon as possible and within one working week. It is important that in the event of a complaint, the school’s complain policy has been followed that that you have spoke to the school directly.
